# Welcome If you're new here, you're probably wondering a few things. Who am I? What is this? Most importantly... why ".io"? The first two questions - I'll keep it simple. My name is Olivia Long. This is my virtual notebook. The third question - it's probably easier to answer in bullet point form. - The ".com" top-level domain (TLD) was already taken. - I thought ".io" had nice symmetry to my nickname "livlong". - The TLD ".io" refers to "I/O" or "Input/Output" for computing. I felt it was fitting. Before the creation of the notebook, my process for learning had been driven by the need to pass a form of assessment. I would input knowledge haphazardly into my brain's "database", often without the needed time to fully document or process the information. In a fairly quick turnaround, I would then output the information onto a test and most likely never use it again. This learning pattern generated a significant amount of data loss. I didn't give myself the chance to retain the information. And if I didn't retain it, did I even learn it in the first place? I don't think so. I refuse to continue to learn this way. I want to begin learning purely out of my own interest. I want it to be easily accessible, and I want the format to be as futureproof as possible. Hence, the creation of my virtual notebook "livlong.io". I feel I should broadcast this information to others. I often find myself in circles of people with similar interests, and someone might find something useful while perusing. I will say - I can't promise the information within this notebook will always be accurate or grammatically correct, so peruse with caution. This is simply my dynamic knowledge network, and it will adjust with time. That brings us back to the initial questions. Who am I? What is this? Most importantly... why ".io"?
